Arrgh!
I was having a lovely chilled weekend until at 4pm on Sunday when an alarm (smoke I think possibly two of them, as there isn't an obvious burglar alarm) started going in the empty terrace house next door. It's converted into flats and the last lot of tenants moved out several months ago and we don't know who the landlord is.
We called the Fire Brigade and they came out and checked the property but as there were no signs of a fire so they did't want to force an entry. So it was wait for the alarms to run their batteries down or call the noise abatement people.
So we gave it a few hours then we tried to get hold of the noise abatement service when it was still going at 8pm, first the number for the out of hours service in the phone book was for office hours only :\ So we called the Police non emergency line and got another number but when we tried that one we got a message saying that the line had moved to the number we'd tried previously. So back to the Police and we finally got the right number and got through. The noise team finally got us at 10pm but there was nothing they could do last night as they needed to get into the property. They served a noise abatement notice on the property and they are supposed to be getting a warrant today to go in to switch it off. Neither of us slept too well last night, I'd have taken the day off work because I'm so tired if it wasn't for the fact that I just had to get away from the noise...
